Salammbô low torch decorated with leaves, made in the 2000s. This piece is remarkable for its Napoleon III style. The profusion of motifs - naturalistic plants and gadroons - covering the surface of the torch is a perfect illustration of this. The Christofle house also experienced real momentum under the Second Empire (1852-1870), obtaining in 1855 the diploma of official supplier to Emperor Napoleon III: he became an essential goldsmith. The name of this Salammbô piece also refers directly to the eponymous novel by Gustave Flaubert published in 1862. This Napoleon III style torch is a piece of goldwork celebrating the key period of the origins of the Christofle house.

The pieces from The Christofle Vintage Collection are second-hand pieces selected and authenticated by Christofle. These are pieces in good condition and restored in our workshops in Yainville (Normandy)...More Information
