From October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, the next World Expo will be held in Dubai under the theme "Connecting minds and creating the future through sustainability, mobility and opportunity".

Christofle has taken this opportunity to revive an almost two hundred year old tradition: to represent the exceptional know-how of French goldsmiths to the world.

Already in 1851, at the very first Universal Exhibition in London, Christofle received the Prize Medal.

Today, Christofle is once again putting all of its unique silversmithing expertise to work by creating an exceptional piece that incorporates all of the skills that have made the brand famous since its creation in 1830.

A SCULPTURE EVENT IN DUBAI: THE TREE OF LIFE BY CHRISTOFLE

To illustrate the concept of this World Expo, Christofle has chosen to create a tree of life, which symbolises Christofle's attachment to its history, its roots, but also its international influence.

The tree has its roots in France, the cradle of the brand, and then develops into a globe. This globe, which houses the Burj Khalifa tower at its heart, is a real technical feat, shaped and chiselled by hand using the planishing technique.

Gold and silver butterflies, lacquered, engraved, openwork or set with stones adorn the branches, polished and chiselled by hand.

In the end, a tree 2 m high and 1 m in diameter weighs nearly 100 kg, including 1 kg of solid silver and 21 g of gold. It is composed of 37 structural elements and decorated with 142 butterflies.

The tree of life required 750 hours of work in the Christofle Haute Orfèvrerie workshops. It will be on display in Dubai from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION ON DUBAI WORLD EXPO 2021

What is a World Expo?

World Expos, sometimes called Expo's, are large public exhibitions held generally every 5 years around the world since 1851. They were created to allow different countries to showcase their craftsmanship and technology, demonstrating the progress made over the centuries.

How long does a World Expo last?

World Expos usually last 6 months to allow as many visitors as possible to discover the achievements of different countries housed in pavilions representing the know-how of each nation.

What to do in Dubai for the World Expo?

Dubai is hosting the World Expo, from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, with 192 countries having announced their participation. Your priority will therefore be to explore the 438 hectares of the site and its pavilions, which are always extraordinary in shape: among the most eagerly awaited are the United Arab Emirates pavilion in the shape of a falcon in flight and the Chinese pavilion with its traditional lantern-shaped design.
