One of the first collections in our catalog since 1862, the Cluny collection embodies timeless simplicity derived from its inspiration from Cluny Abbey in France.
The Cluny collection, one of Christofle's earliest flatware patterns introduced in 1862, showcases a timeless simplicity reminiscent of its namesake, the Cluny Abbey in France. Redesigned in 1964, it maintains the classic Louis XIII style with soft elegance suitable for both casual and formal table settings. Its longevity in Christofle's catalog speaks to the enduring appeal of its clean, classic lines that can be personalized with engravings, making it a favorite for generations.
Christofle's engraving service brings a personal touch to the Cluny collection, offering both hand and mechanical engravings by skilled silversmiths. Whether it's a set of initials, a family crest, or a child's drawing, Christofle can engrave a full range of products with precision and care. This service allows for a personalized experience, making each Cluny piece a cherished keepsake that reflects unique memories and moments.
Essential Cluny flatware pieces include the silver-plated serving ladle and gravy ladle, which embody the collection's understated elegance. Ideal for serving rice, potatoes, and sauces, these items carry the Louis XIII style into modern tablescapes. Beyond the basics, Christofle offers a wide range of individual Cluny pieces that cater to both everyday use and special occasions, providing versatility and elegance to any dining experience.

The best flatware material depends on your personal preferences, needs, and budget. Different materials offer various advantages and characteristics, and what may be ideal for one person or occasion may not be the best choice for another. Here are some common materials used for flatware, along with their characteristics:
Stainless Steel: Stainless steel is a popular and versatile choice for flatware. It is durable, resistant to rust and staining, and relatively affordable. Stainless steel flatware comes in various grades, with 18/10 stainless steel being a higher quality option due to its corrosion resistance and durability. It's suitable for both everyday use and formal occasions.
Sterling Silver: Sterling silver flatware is considered a luxurious and traditional choice. It has a beautiful luster and is known for its timeless elegance. However, it requires regular polishing to maintain its shine and can be relatively expensive. Sterling silver is often used for special occasions and heirloom pieces.
Silver Plated: Silver-plated flatware is an affordable alternative to sterling silver. It features a layer of silver plating over a base metal, which provides a similar appearance to sterling silver. It may require occasional polishing to maintain its shine.
Gold Plated: Gold-plated flatware adds a touch of luxury and elegance to the table. It's ideal for special occasions and formal settings. Gold-plated flatware typically features a layer of gold plating over a base metal.
