Continually prioritizing mastery of techniques and exceptional craftmanship, Christofle announces a special collaboration with artist Junichi Hakose, one of the most acclaimed Japanese lacquer and special craft “Makie” artists. Master Hakose has reimagined the Christofle iconic MOOD giving rise to seven exceptional designs, each in limited editions. The delicacy and attention to detail is exquisite and makes each piece truly one of a kind.
The dragon, one of the four auspicious beasts from ancient China (the qilin, tortoise, dragon, and phoenix), is an imaginary lucky flying creature that was revered as having auspicious powers including the ability to drive away evil spirits and prevent disasters and is also a symbol of authority. This work depicts two dragons in front and behind, one climbing up and the other going down. The artist wanted to create dragons as guardian gods, providing protection from all directions. The highlights of this work are the eyes and expressions, which convey a sense of movement and life. The dragon’s expression changes to strong or kind depending on the eyes, and the placement of blue-green shining shell in the eyes changes the expressions depending on the light. Various expressions are possible depending on the amount of natural light. Bright gold powder is sprinkled on and polished to dynamically depict the paths of the golden dragons. In addition, the cutlery features fine-patterned designs that are suited to the dragons such as the seven treasures.
