Légumier, "Contours Doucine" model, created by Christofle around 1955. The sobriety of the piece allows the famous mirror-polish characteristic of the Parisian silversmith to come into its own. The piece is decorated only with lateral palmettes that serve as handles, and a floral knob to lift the lid.

The word 'légumier', used to describe a vessel for serving vegetables, was not coined until the 19th century, and was inspired by the 'pot à oille', a similar vessel used to serve meats in sauce. This round shape with handles, lining and lid is thought to have appeared in goldsmiths during the reign of Louis XIV, when his wife, Queen Maria Theresa, popularised a dish from her childhood: oille (or olla), a spicy meat stew of Spanish origin.

Christofle Vintage Collection pieces are second hand pieces selected and authenticated by Christofle. They are pieces in good condition and restored in our workshops in Yainville (Normandy)...
