The phoenix symbolizes love. It is an imaginary lucky bird that was revered as one of the four auspicious beasts from ancient China (the qilin, tortoise, dragon, and phoenix). It is said that the phoenix will appear when a virtuous emperor arises, and it is considered an auspicious pattern. The phoenix is said to live in the paulownia tree. The paulownia is also considered to be sacred tree. The case depicts three phoenixes, and the cutlery depicts dignified paulownia trees. The three phoenixes are dancing in a deep, jet black sky, and shell is scattered below the phoenixes to reflect the natural beauty of the light like stars. The beautiful light that spills from the wings of the phoenixes is expressed three-dimensionally by scatting and polishing gold. The wings make use of gold, silver, and palladium colored shadows to depict the phoenixes in a divine and dignified manner.
