The pine tree style, used for this piece, is a regionalist variant of Art Nouveau created in 1900 under the influence of the decorative arts teacher Charles L'Eplattenier (Le Corbusier's teacher) at the School of Applied Arts in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. ​​
