The Art of Silver Care by Christofle

A Christofle Signature
Renowned for the quality and brilliance of its silverware, Christofle has long paid particular attention to the care and maintenance of its creations. Silver tarnishes over time naturally, gradually yellowing or darkening depending on its environment and how it is used.
As early as the late nineteenth century, Christofle developed a range of silver care products in both paste and liquid form.
In 1897, the House registered several care products with the Conseil des Prud’hommes, including Vaselinoire, Glycérose and Rouge à polir. These were followed by Luxor cream in 1898 and Elfotine in 1909.
From 1898 onwards, Christofle also offered maintenance kits containing creams, pastes, brushes and chamois leather cloths.
Continuously refined over the years, these products evolved alongside changing needs. After the Second World War, impregnated polishing cloths were introduced, first as chamois cloths and later as gloves marketed under the name Christécla.
As illustrated in this extract from the 1958 Christofle catalogue, the House offered a comprehensive range of care products designed to help customers preserve the brilliance and beauty of their silverware for generations.
