They are created on a byzantine chain, also called royal mesh or Peruvian mesh, "Birdcage" or "Dilemma of the Fool" depending on the continent and the time. This flexible chain consists of a geometric tangle of rings strung together in a precise and complex pattern. The ends of the Byzantine chains are adorned with graceful tassels themselves made of fine Venetian chains.
