Always cut fresh flowers at an angel using a sharp knife or scissors. Doing so will help the stems absorb water better and prevent your arrangement from dying prematurely.

Order of Operations

Floral Design has an order. Start with your larger blooms and fill in with smaller flowers. This gives your arrangement structure and ensures the small delicate blooms are seen.

The Balancing Act

Great design is not about creating perfect symmetry but rather creating a balance.
To create balance, turn the arrangement as you work to ensure even placement on all sides.
Also, if working with different types of flowers, add each type in groups of 2-3 to avoid a “spotty design".

The Spiral Technique

You don’t have to be a professional florist to achieve the spiral look. You just need to crisscross the stems, which forms the basis for your spiral bouquet.
Remember to keep crisscrossing the stems and to turn the bouquet as your work. Once you are done, keep it all together with floral tape. To hide the tape, wrap with ribbon.

Make It Last

What’s the secret to getting the most out of your design? Good maintenance.
Keep flowers away from direct sunlight and heat. Recut stems and change water every 3 days.
