CHRISTOFLE AND SPORTS

A BIT OF HISTORY...
THE CHRISTOFLE TROPHIES
Did you know that Christofle has offered items for sale that reflect sporting practices? In 1860, Christofle began producing trophies, mainly for agricultural competitions. Christofle often worked on these pieces in collaboration with famous artists such as Albert Carrier-Belleuse.
The Rearing horse was one of the pieces regularly produced for various events over several years.

Until the 1900s, Christofle produced different types of trophies: animal sculptures (decorative elements for vases or cups), scenes evoking the competition (motorboats between Mercury of Victory and the Orient), or antique themes (Victory motifs, palms, putti, antiquisite decorative elements).
The shapes are similar to those of agricultural trophies, but the iconography is adapted to the competition. The animal, a recurring theme in equestrian trophies (but not exclusively, as it is also seen in automobile trophies), is depicted in the round with antiquisite figures of Victory, parles or divinities.

CHRISTOFLE AND TENNIS
