Your pieces are valuable, and protecting them during transport is just as important.
To ensure their safety and avoid any damage that could compromise their eligibility for buyback, it is essential to use careful and suitable packaging for your pieces.

That’s why we have gathered here some general tips for properly packaging your peices, followed by specific recommendations for particularly fragile items, and a list of actions to avoid.

Tips to pack your pieces

To ensure the safety of your pieces during transport,

it is essential to prepare your parts properly and provide yourself with the required equipment.

1. Prepare your pieces: remove any detachable elements (lids, accessories, removable sections).

2. Wrap each item separately: use tissue paper, newspaper, kraft paper, and/or bubble wrap to ensure optimal protection.

3. Choose an appropriate box for your part: it is essential to use closed, sturdy packaging suited to the size of the item.

4. Fill the empty spaces in the box with the paper of your choice: this keeps the part securely in place and prevents it from moving or getting damaged during transport.

Recommendations for your fragile parts

Candelabras are particularly delicate, especially the arms,

which can easily bend if the packaging is not secure enough.

  • Wrap each arm individually, especially if they are removable, using tissue paper/newspaper followed by bubble wrap/kraft paper.
  • Carefully protect the base with several layers of tissue paper/newspaper/kraft paper/bubble wrap.
  • Secure all pieces firmly in the box with crumpled tissue paper/newspaper/bubble wrap/kraft paper, foam, or packing peanuts to prevent any movement or impact during transport.

  • Wrap each piece separately, using tissue paper/newspaper followed by bubble wrap/kraft paper for optimal protection.
  • Reinforce the protection around glass or crystal parts by doubling the layers of paper.
  • Secure the pieces firmly in the box with crumpled tissue paper/newspaper/bubble wrap/kraft paper, foam or packing peanuts to prevent any movment or impact during transport.

Tea and coffee sets are made up of several often fragile elements

(lids, handles, spouts) that require careful packaging.

  • Wrap each item separately (teapot, coffee pot, sugar bowl, milk jug, lid(s)) using tissue paper/newspaper/kraft paper, followed by bubble wrap.
  • Pay particular attention to delicate parts such as handles, spouts, and lids by doubling the protective layers.
  • Secure all items firmly in the box with crumpled tissue paper/newspaper/bubble wrap/kraft paper, foam, or packing peanuts to prevent any movement or impact during transport.
  • Place the heaviest items at the bottom of the box and the lighter ones on top, making sure they do not press down on one another.

Dishes, especially large serving platters, are sensitive to twisting and lateral impacts, particularly if the box is too tight.

  • Use a box that is larger than the platter to avoid pressure on the edges.
  • Wrap the platter in tissue paper/newspaper/kraft paper, then in bubble wrap.
  • Fill the inside of the platter (if hollow) with crumpled paper to reinforce its structure
  • Secure the items firmly in the box with crumpled tissue paper/newspaper/bubble wrap/kraft paper, foam, or packing peanuts to prevent any movement or impact during transport.

Champagne buckets can easily become deformed if the packaging is too tight or poorly secured.

  • Choose a box larger than the bucket to avoid any pressure on the sides.
  • Fill the inside of the bucket with crumpled tissue paper/newspaper/kraft paper and/or bubble wrap to reinforce its structure.
  • Wrap the entire bucket with tissue paper/newspaper/kraft paper, followed by bubble wrap.
  • Secure all items firmly in the box using crumpled tissue paper/newspaper/bubble wrap/kraft paper, foam, or packing peanuts to prevent any movement or impact during transport.

Things to Avoid When Packing Your Item

  • Using cardboard that is too thin or damaged
  • Using cardboard that is too small for bulky items
  • Packing several items together without separating them
  • Neglecting fragile parts
  • Forgetting to fill the inside of hollow items
