Adam D. Tihany is now one of the best-known architects in the world thanks to his many hotel and restaurant projects. He was born in Transylvania in 1948, raised in Israel, and earned his architectural degree from the Politecnica in Milan. He moved to New York City in 1976 where he became Design Director of the Firm Unigram and established his own studio in 1978. Today, Tihany Design is a multidisciplinary agency that covers all aspects of design, from interiors to objects to exhibition scenography. Adam D. Tihany has conceived interiors for some 300 luxury restaurants – many for celebrated chefs – and boutique hotels around the world. In New York City alone, Tihany was responsible for Le Cirque 2000 for Sirio Maccioni, Jean Georges for Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Per Se for Thomas Keller, and Daniel for Daniel Boulud. Adam D. Tihany has also been a major force in Las Vegas’s development as an international gourmet capital. Since 1993, he has designed several restaurants there, including Aureole at the Mandalay Bay, Sirio Ristorante and Union at Aria, City Center, Twist at Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, and Comme Ça at The Cosmopolitan. His more significant projects include the restaurant and bar at the ultra-chic Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London, the Aleph hotel in Rome {winner of the 2003 European Hotel Design Award}, the historic King David and the Dan Eilat hotels in Israel, Hanger One, a private aviation club in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Landmark Oriental Hong Kong. Recent projects include world-class resort One&Only Cape Town, Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, Bouchon Beverly Hills, and both Bar Boulud and Dinner at Heston Blumenthal at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. Adam D. Tihany has also designed product lines for a number of prestigious companies including furniture for the Pace Collection and McGuire, and porcelain objects, cigar boxes, and ashtrays for Villeroy and Boch.
